VATAG Demonstrates Combat and Logistics Configurations at On the Road to URC 2026 in Rzeszów

Ukrainian company Ground Systems presented the VATAG heavy unmanned ground vehicle (H-UGV) at the On the Road to URC 2026 defense conference held in Rzeszów, Poland, on April 26–27, 2026. The event served as one of the key preparatory stages toward the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026, bringing together stakeholders from the security and defense sectors, including representatives of the defense industry, technology companies, and international institutions.


During the event, VATAG was demonstrated in combat and logistics configurations, showcasing the capabilities of a heavy robotic ground platform designed to support different mission profiles. VATAG is being developed as the foundation of a heavy H-UGV ecosystem, with a modular architecture that allows the platform to be adapted to different operational requirements.

Heavy Logistics and Evacuation

One of VATAG’s key applications is the execution of heavy logistics missions. The platform is designed to transport up to 2 tons of payload, enabling the delivery of equipment, supplies, and other cargo, as well as supporting evacuation missions.


This approach allows the robotic platform to take on tasks that, in certain scenarios, would otherwise require personnel to operate in high-risk environments.


Autonomy and Navigation

VATAG combines a heavy robotic platform with an intelligent navigation and control system based on machine vision, LiDAR, sensors, artificial intelligence, and machine learning technologies.


The system enables the platform to plan and adjust routes, operate in environments with limited GPS availability, detect and avoid obstacles, and use “follow” mode to move as part of a convoy with minimal operator involvement.


Autonomous capabilities are a core element of the VATAG architecture, designed to reduce operator workload and expand the platform’s ability to operate in complex environments.


Hybrid Powertrain

VATAG is equipped with a hybrid powertrain, enabling operation in a reduced acoustic and thermal signature mode. This expands the range of potential use cases and allows the platform’s operating profile to be adapted to specific mission requirements.


The combination of a hybrid powertrain, autonomous navigation, and a heavy wheeled platform provides the foundation for extended logistics and engineering missions.

Modular Architecture

VATAG is being developed not as a single-purpose vehicle, but as a platform for a heavy H-UGV ecosystem. Its modular architecture enables the system to be configured for different types of missions.


As part of its own technology ecosystem, Ground Systems is developing universal combat modules, including a module equipped with a 25 mm automatic cannon, as well as hardware and software solutions supporting autonomous platform functions.


This approach positions VATAG as a foundation for multiple configurations in which the payload and functional equipment can be adapted to mission requirements.

Communications and Operation in Complex Environments

Reliable communication between the platform and its operator is another key area of VATAG’s development. The platform supports a multi-channel data transmission architecture that can incorporate independent protected communication channels.


This capability is an important component for operating a robotic system in complex electromagnetic environments and under conditions of unstable communications infrastructure.


From Platform to System

VATAG combines autonomy, artificial intelligence, machine learning, modularity, survivability, and interoperability. This architecture positions the H-UGV not simply as a transportation asset or standalone robotic vehicle, but as a technological platform capable of supporting different mission profiles.

Participation in On the Road to URC 2026 provided an opportunity to present VATAG to an international audience and demonstrate Ground Systems’ approach to the development of heavy unmanned ground systems. The Rzeszów conference brought together representatives of the public sector, defense industry, technology companies, and international institutions, with a focus on strengthening security capabilities and industrial cooperation.
